How the process works
- Clearance search: we check the TÜRKPATENT register and the Official Trademark Bulletin for identical and similar earlier marks and give you a risk assessment before you file.
- Filing: the application covers one or more Nice classes. The specification of goods and services is filed in Turkish; we prepare the translation.
- Examination: TÜRKPATENT examines formalities and absolute grounds, including identical or indistinguishably similar earlier marks for the same goods or services.
- Publication: an accepted application is published in the Official Trademark Bulletin, usually 1–4 months after filing.
- Opposition period: third parties may oppose within 2 months of publication.
- Registration: if there is no opposition, the registration fee is paid and the certificate issued, typically 8–12 months after filing.
What we need from you
- Applicant's full name and address.
- The mark (word mark, or a clear image for a logo).
- The goods and services you want to protect; we help you choose the right classes.
- A power of attorney signed by the applicant; we send you the form.
- If you claim priority from an earlier foreign application (within 6 months under the Paris Convention), its number, date and country.
After registration
Protection lasts 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed indefinitely. Renewal is possible in the 6 months before expiry and, with a surcharge, within a 6-month grace period.
A registered mark that is not genuinely used in Türkiye for 5 years can be revoked for non-use. Keep evidence of use (invoices, catalogues, advertising) for the Turkish market.
TÜRKPATENT does not refuse similar (as opposed to identical) marks on its own initiative. Watching the bulletin and opposing in time is the owner's responsibility.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a local attorney to file in Türkiye?
- Yes. Applicants who are not domiciled in Türkiye must be represented by a trademark attorney registered with TÜRKPATENT.
- How long does registration take?
- Without objections or oppositions, registration usually takes 8–12 months from filing. An opposition or a refusal adds time.
- Can I file one application for several classes?
- Yes. A single Turkish application can cover several Nice classes; official fees are charged per class.
- Should I file nationally or designate Türkiye through Madrid?
- Both are possible. A national filing gives you a Turkish attorney from day one and full control of the file; a Madrid designation can be cheaper if you are filing in many countries. If a Madrid designation is refused, you will need a local attorney to respond anyway.
